Philippians is a joyful, almost exuberant, book. The words joy and rejoice appear over a dozen times in just four chapters. The theme of his letter is encouragement. Paul wanted the Philippians to live as citizens of a heavenly colony with a growing commitment to serve God and each other. This 16-page devotion takes you through Philippians one chapter a day for four days.
Comment. We will begin with one of these most quoted, familiar verses, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (v. 6). I referred to that verse in several of my journals. It reminds us our faith walk is a work in progress. We must continue to grow in our faith. We must continue to allow the Lord to work in us and through us. Christianity is not a destination; it is a journey.
Prayer. We are reminded to live in a manner worthy of the Gospel so our lives reflect Your Gospel. Some people seeing our lives will accept the Gospel, and some will reject it. But either way, in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed through our lives. We pray You would see our manner of life worthy of the Gospel… We are all a work in progress. Continue to complete what You have started in each one of us. To God be the glory. In Jesus’ name, we ask it. Amen.
