Day by Day Through the Bible: Twenty-Eight Days in Acts - Digital Download
Luke’s intent in his Gospel and in the Book of Acts was to create an accurate record of things people had seen concerning Jesus in their lifetime. Acts covers the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ, the arrival of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the conversion of Saul to Paul, and the building of the church through persecution and hardship, to far-flung places, likes Africa, Asia, and Europe. A pattern repeats itself in Acts. Christian leaders rise and preach the Gospel. Listeners are converted and added to the new church. Opponents, both Jews and Gentiles, persecute the Christian leaders. God intervenes to rescue those leaders or protect His church. We will see that pattern over and over in this 59-page devotion through the Book of Acts, one chapter a day for twenty-eight days.
Comment: Ananias and Sapphira’s lesson: don’t appear to be more than you are. The sale was not the issue. Nor the price. Nor what they gave. The issue was saying one thing and doing another for appearance sake. Be real. Do what we say, say what we do. Don’t appear to be more than we are.
Prayer: Father, the Word of God strengthens us. We read a story like Stephen and it encourages us to know our faith, to be able to stand for our faith, and to have a heart like Stephen. A forgiving, gracious, loving heart to those who persecuted him. Give me that kind of heart today, Lord. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
