Day by Day Through the Bible: Thirteen Days in Nehemiah - Digital Download
Nehemiah is the central figure of the book that bears his name. The scene is the re-population of Jerusalem after captivity in Babylon. The theme of Nehemiah is the Lord’s protection of his people and their need to keep the Torah, the Law of Moses. Look for a God who hears prayer. A God who works through and around powerful leaders to accomplish His purpose. A God of mercy despite His people’s persistent sin. A God of protection, so we need not fear. God uses Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. He led him step by step. He can use us step by step too. Nehemiah faced stiff opposition. We may too. This 31-page devotion takes you through Nehemiah in thirteen days.

Comment: When Nehemiah’s God-given task to rebuild the walls was over, he turned over authority to someone else. This is another great lesson in leadership. God calls certain people to do certain things. Nehemiah understood this, and when his construction project was over, he moved on. Oh, that we as leaders would understand this today. God calls us to certain tasks. Do those tasks and when they are over, move on.
Prayer: We pray we could also make a firm commitment in our hearts, and maybe even in writing, to keep what we learned in the last verse of this chapter, “. . . We will not neglect the house of our God” (v. 39). May we hear that, Lord, and obey. May we make a covenant to support our local churches with our finances, our prayers, our involvement.
